My father, Eliezer, was the only Grumet brother to move out of Baligrod -- mainly because his mother's family (Penner) was from Lutowisk. I was inducted into the Russian army in 1942 until 1947. I then returned to try and live in Lutowisk and Baligrod but found most of the place was burned out and no Jews. I also visited Baligrod in 1992 and found that the cemetery was in a disarray but didn't really spend time look on each tombstone. The Zanvil-Aharon dual-family wood home was destroyed and a four story school now stands in its place on the north side of the Rynek (town square). I came to Israel in April 1957 from behind the Iron Curtain town of Uztrszyki Dolne. My older brother Lipa me and my sister Golda from Lutowisk to Baligrod in 1935. In 1939, Lipa insisted that we all leave to the Russian sector but Zanvil Grumet only agreed to let me go – not Golda. She was taken, probably in 1942, by the Germans.
