Maps & Historical Geography
Maps make it possible to place Jewish households, institutions, businesses, cemeteries, roads, and neighboring settlements within the changing landscape of Tarnobrzeg and Dzików. Read together with parcel registers, property records, resident lists, and documents that give house or lot numbers, they can turn names in a record into places in a town.
This page reproduces historical maps when the site has a clear basis for doing so and links to institutional or specialist collections when the map is better viewed at its source. The goal is both visual history and practical genealogical research.
Tarnobrzeg & Dzików Through Maps
1853 · The nineteenth-century town
Tarnobrzeg and Dzików, 1853
Public domain
This cadastral-era town plan shows Tarnobrzeg and adjoining Dzików before the transformations of the later nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The market-centered street pattern, Dzików estate landscape, fields, roads, and the relationship of the two settlements are visible at a glance.
For property research, use this overview together with the much more detailed full-color 1853 cadastral survey in the Gesher Galicia Map Room. That interactive reconstruction contains numbered parcels and buildings and can be compared with the contemporary parcel registers listed below.

1938 · On the eve of war
WIG detailed map of Tarnobrzeg, 1938
Existing KehilaLinks collection
The site’s existing 1938 map provides a detailed view of Tarnobrzeg and Dzików immediately before the Second World War. It is especially useful for locating roads, built-up areas, railway infrastructure, public facilities, and the expanding twentieth-century town in relation to the older core.
The underlying sheet can now be identified as the Polish Military Geographical Institute (Wojskowy Instytut Geograficzny, WIG) 1:25,000 sheet P46 S33 I — Tarnobrzeg, dated 1938. Mapster provides high-resolution copies and related editions.
Site status: this image is already part of the Tarnobrzeg KehilaLinks collection. The external link below identifies the underlying WIG sheet and provides access to high-resolution versions.
More Historical Maps from Public Collections
The following maps add different layers to the story. Their holding institutions identify the relevant materials as public domain, but this page links to the institutional copies rather than reproducing third-party derivatives. They are especially useful when opened at full resolution.

Informacyjna mapa powiatu tarnobrzeskiego

Cemetery Maps & Plans
The Jewish Cemetery page preserves the site’s historical cemetery map, cemetery sketch and legend, surviving-stone photographs, and Dzików ohel material. Because provenance for several inherited cemetery images is still being refined, the full collection remains on the Cemetery page, where the cautions and historical context can accompany it.
From Parcels to People
Cadastral maps are not merely illustrations. When paired with their registers and later household records, they can help reconstruct who occupied, owned, leased, or moved through particular parts of Tarnobrzeg and Dzików.

Gesher Galicia cadastral indexes |
Reading cadastral evidence carefully: parcel numbers, building numbers, and civic house numbers are not necessarily the same numbering system. A map and its companion register should be matched before a number in a birth, residence, tax, school, or property record is assigned to a specific modern location.
