Jakob (Jacob) Herzog was born in Skala in 1890. He was the son of Yosel Herzog of Jagielnica and Ruchel Gottesfeld of Skala. While in Skala, Jacob worked as a tinsmith. He emigrated from Skala in 1911 and came to New York via Rotterdam. A long-time energetic participant in the activities of the Skala Benevolent Society, Jacob served in many capacities, as an officer and committee member. He returned to Skala in the 1920s and 1930s, to visit his family and to bring funds that had been collected by the Society for members of Skala's Jewish community.
