1912 Draft Evasion List

This is an example of a more unusual type of record: A decree by the Court or the Resieniai Uzed on November 2, 1912 which penalized a number of Jewish families from the town of Skaudvilë for avoiding the army draft.  The penalty for each family was 300 gold Rubles which was quite high. We estimate that it would be the equivalent of a good horse, a house in a small village, or even 15% of the annual income of a small merchant family.
