Preface

In the summer of 2005, my husband Arnold and I, accompanied by our dear friend Birute and her guest Aiste, visited Seduva, a small town south west of Rozalimas.

We wanted to visit some interesting local attractions, so we did and we had a wonderful time together, but then I felt my blood stirring and I HAD to ask someone in Seduva, an elderly man we passed by, about former Jewish life in Seduva. He could tell us something, but there was a woman in Seduva who knew more .

He accompanied us to her house and we were invited to enter. The woman’s name was Marija Rozinskiene and as a child she witnessed the war. She was the former bookkeeper of the community of Seduva.

The house on the photo is where Marija lives now. Before the war it belonged to a Jewish family, names unknown.
After giving us tea, coffee , cakes and chocolates, she invited us for a walk through Jewish Seduva

My aim is....

to tell people in general, and especially young people, about the Jews of Seduva. In this way I hope to arouse the reader’s interest in the part of history which will be revealed as soon as you’ll turn the page. It will be just a tiny part, because a lot of valuable information, concerning the Jewish community of Seduva, was destroyed during the Nazi-German Occupation (1941-1944) in Lithuania. So you’ll understand of course that a lot of questions I asked have still been unanswered till now. By means of this website I also hope to reach those people who will be able to answer some of my own questions.

Finally I hope to reach the scientific group of people who are specialized in Jewish history and hopefully to arouse their interest in continuing further research concerning the Jewish community of Seduva.
