Savran was once a vibrant market town with a sizable Jewish population in what is now rural southwestern Ukraine. For generations, Jewish families lived, worked, worshiped, traded, studied, raised children, and built community here as part of the rich Jewish world of Podolia.

They also endured restrictive laws, conscription, pogroms, revolution, displacement, and the devastation of the Holocaust. Much of that Jewish community has now disappeared from Savran’s physical landscape.

This site is a history, memorial, and research resource for Savran’s former Jewish community. Through historical accounts, archival records, family memories, maps, photographs, cemetery documentation, and genealogical sources, it seeks to recover both the hardships the community endured and the ordinary, vibrant world its people created.
