Exterior of the Kazinczy utca Synagogue
Miskolc researcher John J. Kovacs returned to his native city in 2005. He later wrote: "The Miskolc synagogue is hardly in use, as they do not have enough Jews in Miskolc, except perhaps on the high holidays. When I was there in 2005, they had to wait for the tenth person to form a minyan. The small room they used for prayer was the one in which six of us ten-year-old boys who were attending the nearby Catholic gymnasium in the early 1940s used to receive Jewish religious instruction."

Mr. Kovacs noted: "The photographs below were taken in 2005, during a musical week in Miskolc. At that time, three or four singers from Israel who were studying at the Stuttgart opera in Germany came to Miskolc to perform at the Kazinczy utca synagogue." The concerts were open to the citizenry of Miskolc, as a result of which this was a rare modern occasion when the synagogue's main chapel was full.
