Dr. Polozov 2019 Article Introduction
"First of all - many thanks to the administrator and the editor of the "MZ" magazine, Leonid Shkolnik, for the remarkably warm words addressed to me. Of course, it is gratifying that my old article, "The Proskurov Righteous", has not been forgotten. It's encouraging mainly because of the opportunity to again draw attention to these truly heroic, righteous people. Of course, I had expected then, three years ago, that we would have got the respond from the descendants of those victims of the unprecedented 1919 Proskurov pogrom, which had been saved by the Righteous .
But no, this had not happened, although the "MZ" magazine has a large audience. The descendants of the heroes of that old article didn’t respond either, apparently because it took longer time for them to get the information about that article. In any case, when I first called to Dr. Polozov’s grandson, Sergey Borisovich Kokovkin (Moscow), he had already learned, as well as the other members of the Polozovs' clan (the doctor had 7 children!), about "the article, that struck us all "(as he wrote me recently), and was ready to act.

By that time, decent Iaroslav Mikhailovsky, obviously of “one blood” with those righteous men, who had been depicted in the article, had already begun - alone, following the call of his heart, - to work on the restoration of the tombstone. Sergey Borisovich very quickly joined the process, arrived in Khmelnitsky - even not alone, but with his wife and daughter (and this was correctly done - one must not only tell, but if possible, show the children places related to family history). And the result - "it's done!, we did it!". "I am eternally grateful to you and Iaroslav for everything that happened," S. B. writes to me.

In this phrase, of course, it would be correct to put Iaroslav's name to the first place! "Everything that happened" is his merit. And honor and praise to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the wonderful doctor, his true descendants, who are not indifferent to the death and legacy of their worthy ancestor. I hope the materials of the Polozovs' family history which Sergey Borisovich presented to the workers of the Khmelnytsky Regional Museum of Local History, will find a place in its exposition. How important it is for future generations - to learn from the deeds of heroes!"

Sergey Nikolaevich Polozov (1877–1937), the legendary Proskurov doctor and public figure who saved the lives of thousands of Podolians, soldiers of the First World War and victims of pogroms. The coffin with his body was carried by the inhabitants of the city on their hands. Peace be upon him.
