Albigowa, Poland

Albigowa is included in the Kolbuszowa Region Research Group (KRRG). Shtetlach were interwoven together like a tapestry and the Jewish people of neighboring shtetlach linked by marriages, trade and marketing. They shared schools, cemeteries, kosher butchers, bakers and more. Smaller shtetlach registered their birth, marriages and death in a nearby larger shtetl. History/Geography:

• In present day Poland Albigowa is in the Podkarpackie Województwo [ Province ] ( formerly Rzeszowskie Woj.)., Lańcucki. Powiat [ County ] and Lańcut Gmina [ Rural Administrative District ].

• Albigowa was settled primarily by people of German descent  in approximately 1340 and later by some Russians. Documents of that time were written in German.  The first documents written in Polish date from 1558.

Holocaust:

• German troops murdered 62 Jews between the years 1942 and 1943 in about 9 executions:
  In the summer of 1942 the Nazis murdered another 10 Jews on the road to the vilage of Kraczkowa
  Also in the summer of 1942 a seven-person Jewish family from Albigowa was killed in Handzlowka, where they had been sheltered.
  Autumn 1943 25 Jews were shot near the tannery.
