The Cholera Epidemic in Przeworsk
Submitted by Myriam Fender
Esther Banda told her daughter (Myriam Fender’s mother) of a typhus (or cholera?) epidemic in Przeworsk. People were dying by the hundreds. To avoid the disease spreading, the houses where a new case was reported were put in quarantine: a white cross was painted on the front door and nobody was allowed to go out; food was deposited in front of the door for the family to feed themselves. Corpses were taken away and burnt.
