Biographical Sketches of teachers in the Jewish School (opened 1845):

     Ignác STERN: (~1810, Nyitra-1865, Szeged) theologian and educator.  One of the first teachers in the school; he also helped developed the curriculum, which included both religious and secular subjects including Religion, Bible, Laws, Hebrew, German, Hungarian, Spelling, History, Writing, Arithmetic and Physical Science

   Frigyes WILHEIM (1812-1900) teacher and school Director.  Though from a poor background, he received his education in Bratislava, and later in Buda.  An exceptional student, he particularly enjoyed math, and mastered ancient Greek, Latin, Italian, English, French and Hebrew.  His first teaching assignment was in Nagykoros, then moved to Hódmezõvásárhely, where he remained until his death.

   Moses BRUCK (1812, Prerau, Moravia - 1849, HMV)  teacher, author and Army Lieutenant.  He was part of the Jewish Reform movement, as well as a pioneer of modern Jewish literature.
 
   Adolf ENGLÄNDER.  originally from Kassa.
  
   Simon KEMÉNY (1865, Nagykanizsa - 1941, HMV)  teacher and school Director.  His family was originally from Brno, Moravia.  School enrollment flourished during his tenure starting in 1895 and lasting 40 years until his retirement.

   Miksa KOHN / SZEMZO (1876-1929)  Lawyer, Attorney General and President of the Jewish Community.  His family was originally from Sárospatak and Makó.  He studied law at the University of Budapest, receiving his doctorate in 1899.  He opened his own office in 1904.  Enlisting during WWI, he fought in Serbia and reached the rank of Captain.

   Hajnal HAVAS (1893-?) teacher. She started teaching at the Jewish School in 1926 and was known for being a precise, meticulous and strict instructor.

   Dr. Bela DEUTSCH (1894-1961)

   László GRUBER (1909, Bodrogszerdahely - 1987, Szeged) cantor, High School teacher, University professor.  He studied voice in Frankfurt-am-Main, and was employed in Hódmezõvásárhely starting in 1934 on a trial basis, but stayed nearly 50 years.  He was known for his patience with his students.

 Róza Klementina TÉVÁN (1916-1989)  She established the State Children's Home, later the State Girls' Foster Home and was known as the "Vásárhelyi Mother Teresa".
