Last week I have visited the Central Archive of History of
Jewish
People in Jerusalem and I have found a lot of documents from
Odessa
archive related to Jewish Agricultural Colonies in Southern
Ukraine.
Most of documents have historical values without genealogical
information (letters, orders, complaints), but also you can find
many
surnames.
I have found:
1) A number of files with official correspondence related to Jewish
petitions about settlement in Kherson gubernia. For example, a 40
page file - "Petition of Mittava jews Levin Ber
BERNSHTAM, Nahman Girsh GOLDINGER and Yankel Solomon FELDMAN who
wants to settle in Kherson gubernia; a petition of 32 Jews from
Grodno" - the whole file is about my great great great grandfather
!!!
2) Petition of colonists from different colonies about help with
food and cattle with the full lists of colonists (only heads family
names) with signatures!!!
3) I have copied these documents for Novo Berislav colony (which
was established by Courland Jews). There may be information about
two other colonies (maybe Novo Poltavka - the handwriting is
poor and hard to read and I have not yet read all the
documents that I copied).
So use this excellent source of information in your research!
These documents contains information related to settlements from all
Western gubernias, not just Courland!
