On-Site Research

For on-site research you will need to be prepared as procedures are many and things take time. It is also very advisable to either know Polish or be accompanied by someone who does.

An inventory of Żółkiewka related records in each repository can be found on JRI-Poland's Żółkiewka page. You will need to scroll down to the "Polish State Archives" section.
Note that Żółkiewka records are divided between the Lublin and Zamość state archives as well as the local USC for documents under 100 years old. Below are access details to all three repositories.

Tips:

o   There is a small parking lot next to the community office. The access to the USC is from the parking lot side and not the main entrance.

o   Arrive well before closing time.

o   Note that documents even a little more than 100 years might be "in transit" between the USC and the archive.

Tips:

o   Arrive well before closing time.

o   You are limited by the number of items you ask for to the reading room and it can take a long time for the items to arrive so come well prepared with a prioritized list.

o   No food or drinks inside but the archive is very close to a lot of food shops or restaurants.

o   Some of the staff speak English but the (many) forms are in Polish and the staff will not sit with you unless booked in advance.

o   Make sure you adhere to the COVID directions and validate any changes in access hours.

Tips:
