Expeditions 2000

In July 2000 Odessa Hillel held an expedition with the aim to find burial places and locations of extermination of Jews.

The previous expeditions’ result was discovery of the route of column of Jews moving to the north by the fascists’ order and two extermination places: one - between the villages of Sheremetovo and Potashenkovo, and the other one - between Yegorovka and Brinovka. That column consisted of Jews who avoided the execution in Dalnik in autumn 1941. Several tens thousand of Jews left Dalnik, and only a hundred of them reached the point of destination–Domanyovka ghetto. Out of that hundred there were only four survivors who cannot remember the column route because they were kids at that time. So, we launched the July expedition.

We found out the column’s direction and moving along it studied the territory of Belka, Ivanovka, Buzinovo, Balanino, Blagoyevo and Petrovka (Buyalyk) villages. Besides, we explored not only the places of column’s route, but the villages mentioned in witnesses’ evidences: Severinovka, Russkaya Slobodka, Adamovka, Gudichevo, Chervonoznamenka.

Following burial places were found:

  • Severinovka – about 15 persons,
  • Ivanovka – about 30 persons,
  • Balanino – several tens.

The excavations were done in Balanino.

Small monuments were erected in Ivanovka and Balanino where Jews had been shot and buried.
