My grand mother, Hilda Riegler have immigrated to Israel ( then called 'Palestine' - nothing in common with today 'Palestine' in Gaza strip and the west bank ) from Storojinet in 1936, together with her sister Lena, to join their brother Marcus.
During the years 1936-1941, her father Zusa Riegler sent letters to his children in Israel. In 1941, Zusa, his wife, and one sister - Sidi were killed during the journey to Transnistria camp. When my grand mother (Hilda) died in 1993 we took the letters and kept them.
Recently, I have decided to translate the letters which most of them is written in German. The person who is in charge on this demanding project is my friend Dr. Francisco Welter-Schultes (his picture below) from Germany who also made the translation of the last postcard. I scan the letters, send them to Francisco, and Francisco makes a transcript in German, and the English translation. When I get a letter back from Francisco, I upload it to the web as soon as possible. Francisco work is purely voluntary. Nevertheless, the quality of his work is as professional translator. We have started this translation work on June 2002, and we still in progress. The letters are written in a rare Austrian dialect of German, not all of them are clear, and some Yiddish slang is sometime used.
These letters, bring you a view of the family happiness, worries, and are actually the last contact between the family members in Storojinet, and their family in Israel.
