MONUMENT IN HONOR OF SHKLOV CIVILIANS KILLED IN WWII

At the top of a hill on the outskirts of Shklov near the road leading into Zarecha, stands an obelisk monument to the citizens of Shklov who were killed in World War II.    A staircase of several flights of stairs leads up to the monument.    The inscriptions refer to "peaceful residents of Shklov" who were killed, but there is no mention of the Jewish people killed.    It is not clear whether the Jewish population of Shklov killed is included among the numbers of these "peaceful residents," and presumably they are, but it is clear that this monument makes no specific reference to the Jewish population who were mercilessly slaughtered.
