This is a landing page for the 1874 List of Males of Lyakhovichi. The material has been acquired, translated into English, and put into spreadsheet format, but its acquisition costs have not yet been recovered and so it is not yet available for publication on this website. Contact Gary Palgon to learn how you can contribute and view this information now.

Why should you be excited about this material and how is it different from the Revision Lists done in the same time period? This list appears to be created for an entirely different purpose than the Revision Lists. Its concentration on males in the household, down to young children, suggests that it was created for conscription purposes, a secondary or tertiary intent of the Revision lists. It also reflects the unique Russian legal conundrum - a man's residence had nothing to do with where he actually resided, his "legal residence" could not be easily changed, and his children might have a legal residence in a town from which their father departed years before their birth.

Several lists from this source appear below:

Taxpayers in Russian Tax Lists who appear with more info in the 1874 List of Jewish Males of Lyakhovichi

Every source of new information changes the way we can use previously acquired data. The List of Jewish Taxpayers in Lyahovichi from 1883-1884 is an incredibly valuable source, see our page Russian Tax Lists in Lyahkovichi . We have recently seen that the Tax Lists cann be tied to the Revision Lists in that the order of previous Revision List sequencing is duplicated in the tax lists. A quick perusal of the latest data from the 1874 List of Jewish Males, shows interesting correlations there as well but first it provides a wide ranging new source of data on men who were previously just names in a list. The table that appears below is a preview of a table being constructed for our Russian Tax List pages. Almost all of the men in the tax lists, also appear in the 1874 List of Jewish Males. Time constraints for this update have forced me to do the briefest intro to the value of these records - so the list below just looks at those chosen for Deputies in 1884 (to represent Lyakhovichi taxpayers). Each of these men has appeared in the Russian Tax Records with a name, patronym, and an age (provided for Deputies and Electors but not for general taxpayers). The age allowed me an additional check that these were likely matches for people with the same name, patronym, and general age range in the 1874 list. The list that will be provided after the translation and acquisition of the 1874 List of Jewish Males has been fully funded will include every taxpayer and all of the new insights provided by the 1874 List.
