Jeżów’s Jewish Cemetery
According to the IAGS website and the Pinkas for the village, the Orthodox cemetery on Rawska Street was established in 19th century.
It is approximately .3 hecares (.74 acres). The last burials were registered between 1939 and 1945. During the war, the cemetery was vandalized and destroyed. It was closed in 1967. In 1985, the walk and gate were fenced. In 1989, it was fenced and cleaned. Only 3 matzevot remain. The cemetery has no signs, but Stars of David adorn the gate and fence. Reached by turning directly off a public road, access is open to all. There is a continuous metal fence with a non-locking gate surrounding the cemetery. No stones are visible. According to the IAGS website, there are no known mass graves. Municipality owns unused site. It is not known if there is a caretaker. However, as of April 2015, the cemetery had been mowed. April 2015 The cemetery appears to have been recently cleaned up. There are a few surviving matzevot. There are also two “foundations” which might be the remains of ohels (graves of prominent individuals). |
