Cotopaxi, 38° 22' 13" N / 105° 41' 17" W, Fremont County, about 125 miles SW of Denver, Colorado.  Take I-25 South to Hwy 115, South to Hwy 50 West.  Approximately 35 miles west of Canon City CO.

From 1882,  the first Colonists started arriving in New York City.  They most likely were residents of Ward's Island at Castle Garden as they were sponsored by the Hebrew Emmigrant Aid Society.  Many Americans did not know Yiddish or Russian, so the names of the Colonists underwent many changes until 1910 when most had assimilated into local populations.

This page will present a list of Surname spellings that have been found on documents to date.  The name on the left will be the common spelling today.  As additional pages are developed, a link will appear for that specific surname page.
