Uzpaliai (Yid. Ushpal) Uena district, Lithuania. Jews settled in the 18th century.  By 1897 the Jewish population was 691 (93% of the total), but by 1923 it was 551 (36%). All Zionist parties were active until the Soviet annexation of 1940. When the Germans entered Uzpaliai on 26 June 1941, the Jews were forced into a ghetto. Groups of Jews were murdered. On 29 August 1941 the remaining Jews in Uzpaliai were taken to the Rase forest and executed.
