Not all those who left Skala went to the United States. Some emigrated to Great Britain.

Mendel Goldschein was born in Skala on October 10, 1873 and was the son of Schmuel and Gnendela Goldschein. He emigrated from Skala to Leeds, England, where he worked as a tailor's presser. There he met Fanny Landman, who had been born in Chortkov and was a tailoress. Max and Fanny were married in Leeds on March 26, 1902.
