Sites in Piatra Neamt

This is a beautiful, large city in the Moldavian region of Romania, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains and on the banks of the Bistrița River. We our lunch at a rustic, open-air restaurant in a recreational park high in the hills surrounding the city and then toured the city.

We rode the cable car up the mountain (which is a ski hill in winter) and marvelled at the views of the city from the heights:

Above center - 15th century Stephen's Tower, the city symbol; above right: a plaque announcing the development of a cooperative project of the European Union and Neamt Judetul (county).

Among the various beautiful buildings in the city, we saw:
Above right: Monument to Paul Celan, the celebrated Romanian Jewish poet. Below left: The City Hall, situated near the synagogues; Below center: Cucuteni Museum; below right: The Railway Station.
