Nyzhni Vorota Religious

~ Religious Life ~

The last Rabbi of Nyzhni Vorota was Rabbi Shulem Noach LANDAU, born there to
Rabbi Moshe Ber LANDAU, and who for many years served in the village as Dayan (Judge).
He was taken to the Munkács Ghetto, and from there deported to Auschwitz, where he was killed.

~ Nyzhni Vorota Cemetery ~

Jewish families that lived in Nyzhni Vorota, and possibly in other nearby villages,
used the Nyzhni Vorota cemetery as the final resting place for their loved ones.

The cemetery is located in the mountains and has a wall around it and a gate.

In the documents section of the "Other" tab, you will find a link to a U.S. Commission
Report completed in 2005 that attempted to document Jewish Cemeteries (and Synagogues
and Mass Grave Sites) in Ukraine. This cemetery is not listed as well as many other village
cemeteries of the Zakarpats'ka oblast.
