Mukacheve   was part of the Kingdom of Hungary (11th century - 1918 and 1938 - 1944) with the name of Munkács   in the Bereg megye (county) and Munkácsi járás (district), next part of Czechoslovakia (1918 - 1938) with the name of Mukačevo   in Podkarpatská Rus (Sub-Carpathia), then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (1945-1991) with the name of Mukachëvo   and, since 1991, known as Mukacheve in the Mukachevskiy (Mukachivs'kyy) rayon (district) and the Zakarpats'ka oblast (county) of Ukraine.

Other spellings/names for Mukacheve are Mikachevo, Munkachevo, Muncaci, Munkatch and Mukaczewo.

In Yiddish, the preferred usage was Minkatch    [ מונקאטש ].

Mukacheve is located 22 miles ESE of Uzhhorod (Ungvár), 16 miles N of Berehove (Beregszász), as indicated on the map below.
