Amstiveva was one of the tri communities (Svisloch, Wolkavsyk and Amstiveva) that shared a rabbi for a long time and it was a shtetl where young rabbi's went when they were just starting out.

Rabbi Abraham Yakov Gershon Lesser (from Shtetl Finder)(1834-1925) was appointed rabbi. His birthplace was Mir, and his father was Ezriel Meir. He later moved to Halnika near Suvalk, to Horodok in Vilna province, to Ludvanov in Suvalk district, to Chicago in 1882, and to Cincinnati in 1898. 1861-
