Lida District Research Group (DRG) of LitvakSIG in cooperation with Lida
District Researchers of Belarus SIG obtains records from all shtetls (towns) in
Lida Uyezd (district) of Vilnius Gubernia (region) of Lithuania including the
town of Lida itself as well as records that pertain to the entire uyezd.
Although the original focus was 19th century Russian Empire period records from
the Lithuanian State Historical Archives in Vilnius (LVIA) for Lida since Lida
is in present day Belarus and between the wars was in Poland, recently we have
obtained records for the 20th century also. Records include censuses [reviski skazki],
family lists, and the like. Vital records for the various towns and villages of
the district are our focus.
We access records, translate, create a database to distribute to our
contributors in Excel format through the Lida District Shutterfly website at https://lidadistrict.shutterfly.com.
Group data is made publicly available in the LitvakSIG All Lithuania Database
(ALD) about two years after translation; contributors get early access only via
the web interface. Our projects are ongoing with progress is based on available
funds and records.
Our contributors are people who are researching Jewish ancestors from
any “shtetl” in Lida Uyezd joined together to maximaze shared resources. Many
of our ancestors lived in one place but worked in another. Some were officially registered, owned
property or had assets in one place but lived in another within Lida uezd. Some
had relatives in another place nearby. Thus, only by researching the broader
uyezd can one can be sure where a family was really "from" and that
one has searched thoroughly. Larger
location in Lida Uyezd are Belitsa, Eisiskes, Lida, Novy Dvor, Orlya, Ostryna,
Radun, Rozanka, Scucyn , Vasilishki, Voranova, and Zaludok with many dependent
villages. Please see their KehillahLinks for more details.
Please consider becoming a qualifying contributor at the $100 level or
more for projects via LitvakSIG Lida District Research Group in cooperation
with Lida District Researchers of Belarus SIG. Effective January 1, 2012, a $100 contribution
provides early access for a five-year cycle, based on calendar year. Please
contact district coordinator Judy Baston for clarification or fund-raising for
this district group. Instructions on how to contribute may be found here. If you have questions, you may contact the
Group Coordinator Judy Baston or at https://www.litvaksig.org/district-research/lida-district-research-group .
