Localities in Lida District

NOTE:  There is a second Belitsa east of the Belitsa in Lida District.  There is a second Butrymonis northeast of Alytus, Lithuania.  Mariampol, Lida District at 54 34/ 25 19 is NOT the Mariampol, Lithuania at 54 34/ 23 21 that has an independent ShtetLinks site. [Kris Nekvedavicius informed me (2006) that there is no Mariampol at this latitude in Belarus]. There are shtetlach named Nowy Dwor and Szczuczyn in Poland in addition to the ones in Lida District, Belarus. Olninek:  it's tempting to think this unknown place represents a typo for Olkinek/Olkieniki, now in Lithuania.  At 5421/ 2450, it's north of the boundary of Nowogrodek wojed., however.   Zelva:  There's a Zelva in Lithuania, north of Vilnius.  There's another Zelva in Belarus, south of Lida District.  Both places are larger than Zelva in Lida District, which is today called Velkaves.  References to Jews in Zelva are far more likely to be referring to the other 2 Zelvas.  In general, be aware that names were often duplicated.
