Most of the back is preprinted; it was then stamped by the studio.
The top line, partly cut off, says "Ya. L. Kalmanovich". The next
line says "Ivye Vilyen. G." which means "Ivye, in Vilna Guberniya"
The inscription on the left reads to the effect of "To my loved
ones, to remember me by". The signature is illegible.
Someone wrote the names on above the people; only the little girl's name, Vyerushka, is legible. She's Wiera Pupko (1907, Lida - 1989, NYC), my father's cousin. The young lady with her is not her mother. As I only inherited this picture after her death, I can only speculate that it survived the Holocaust through being sent to her aunt, my grandmother, who lived in Switzerland with my aunt. [My aunt contracted tuberculosis around World War I and had to move to Switzerland for her health].
