Baranów is included in the Kolbuszowa Region Research Group (KRRG). Shtetlach were interwoven together like a tapestry and the Jewish people of neighboring shtetlach linked by marriages, trade and marketing. They shared schools, cemeteries, kosher butchers, bakers and more. Smaller shtetlach registered their birth, marriages and death in a nearby larger shtetl. Jewish Population before the Holocaust: 1,491 (in 1890), 745 (in 1921)

History and Geography:

  • In present day Poland Baranów is in the Podkarpackie Województwo [ Province ], Tarnobrzeski Powiat [ County ], and is situated on the Vistula River and its right tributary the Babulowka River. Baranów Sandomierski is the seat of the Gmina [ Rural Administrative District ] which includes the city and commune of Baranów Sandomierski and the following villages / communities:  Dąbrowica, Knapy, Nagnajów, Skopanie, Wola Baranowska, Ślezaki. Baranow Sandomierski is situated on the Vistula River and its right tributary the Babulowka River.

  • List of Baranów Martyrs.

  • Berlin (DDR) Trials, 1968: Rudolf Zimmermann received a life sentence for his participation, as translator and Gestapo employee, in the shooting of  hostages, in the deportation and selection of Jews, in individual and mass shootings and in acts of mishandling and statement extortion. In this way the accused took part in the murder of, at least, 1,239 Polish civilians and in the deportation of at least, 7,100 Jews. He killed 106 Jews single-handedly.

  • In the village of Ossala 8.1 miles W of Baranów: Jan Szlosser, 6 July 1943, was shot for helping to save Jews.
