Ulanów Landsmanshaftn and Congregations:


 

Landsmanshaftn: In the 1960s, the American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS) microfilmed the Jewish incorporation records for Landsmanshaftn and other town and country-related organizations incorporated in New York County the period from 1848-1920. These Landsmanshaftn provided social and economic services and support for their members. The following Buczacz Landsmanshaftn [home town associations] are recorded in the microfilms: In the 1960s, the American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS) microfilmed the Jewish incorporation records for Landsmanshaftn and other town and country-related organizations incorporated in New York County the period from 1848-1920. ·         Sons of Isaac from the City of Ulanów Benevolent Association in the City of New York - incorporated in 1892  - Document # 545

·         Ulanower Young Men's Benevolent Association - incorporated in 1903 - Document # 2294

·         Ulanover Congregation Und Umgegend - incorporated in 1907 -  Document # 3812

New York Metropolitan Area Landsmanshaftn Burial Plots: In 1989, the Jewish Genealogical Society, Inc. (New York) began an effort to identify the names and cemetery locations of all Jewish burial society plots in the New York metropolitan area. These include plots of Landsmanshaftn, synagogues, family circles, fraternal organizations and labor unions. The following Buczacz Landsmanshaftn plots are listed:

·         Chevra Bnei Moses Anshe Ulinow & Umgegend (post) - Washington (B'klyn) - Section 4, Post 395

·         Congregation Chevra Linas Azedek Anshi Ilenevey - Mt. Zion -  Path 42 Right, Gate 10

·          Ulanover Chevra & Umgegend (trans. post) - Mt. Judah - Section 1, Block V

·         First Bucecer Independent Benevolent Association - Montefiore - Block 3, Gate 573/N

·         Ulanover Congregation & Umgegend - Montefiore -  Block 3, Gate 572/W

YIVO Landsmanshaftn Collection: The following Ulanów Landsmanshaft files are included in the YIVO Landsmanshaft collection:

·         Ulanower Congregation and Umgegend  - RG 123 -  Box 16

Note: RG stands for Record Group

The Landsmanshaftn files include information on all the activities of the Landsmanshaft including list of Officers, membership lists, meetings, records pertaining to burials, etc. The files can be viewed at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research:

The American Jewish Year Book: The original entries give the building address, the founding date, the names of several of the major officers, the number of members, the income of the last fiscal year, and the frequency of meetings or services. The listings for congregations also contain the name of the rabbi and cantor, the language of the service, the number of pupils and teachers in the religious school, and the names of auxiliary societies.

Please Note:  It is possible that some of the Landsmanshaftn and Burial Plots are not for “our” Ulanów.  Although they were listed as in Poland there is another Ulanów in Poland.
