Geography

Kherson or Cherson, located in southern Ukraine (once part of the Pale of Settlement), is the administrative center of the Kherson Oblast (province) as well as its own raion (district).

It is a port on the Dnieper River where the river flows into the Black Sea. Kherson is the site of a major ship-building industry.
