«Боль, слезы и... память»
В эти осенние дни Еврейская община Бердянска отмечает годовщину трагических
событий: 19 октября 1941 года - день массового расстрела евреев на Мерликовой
балке.
Уничтожение евреев началось с первых же дней оккупации города Осипенко (так
назывался Бердянск с 1939 по 1958 гг.) - с начала сентября 1941 года. Евреев
убивали в домах, на улицах, в центре города на Приморской площади, у парашютной
вышки, в порту.
Мерликовая балка - одно из красивейших мест в окрестностях Бердянска, место
оздоровительных детских лагерей. Территория детского санатория НКВД стала
страшной могилой более чем для 900 мирных жителей, детей и взрослых, в основном
- евреев.
Сюда, на это святое для евреев место, приходят поклониться праху безвинных
жертв очевидцы, чудом оставшиеся в живых дети войны, а сейчас уже бабушки и
дедушки. Приходят их близкие, члены еврейской общины, подопечные «Хеседа
Дебора», молодежь Общинного центра.
Октябрь 2002 года тоже останется в истории еврейской общины Бердянска: в
ближайшее время состоится открытие Памятного знака жертвам Холокоста в центре города,
возле Морского вокзала. Гранитный камень с высеченными на нем словами «Боль,
слезы и... память» и Магендовидом.
Установка этого памятного знака была бы невозможной без помощи членов общины,
правления хеседа, городских властей, частных предпринимателей и широкой
общественности города.
«Это нужно не мертвым, это надо - живым».
