Holocaust

In the spring of 1939, the region of Transcarpathian Ukraine was annexed by Hungary. In a prelude to the mass deportations in 1944, the Hungarians deported 18,000 Jews in 1941 that could not prove their Hungarian citizenship. They were sent across the border and exterminated by the SS in German occupied Poland near Kamenets-Podolsk. The Jewish young men of military age were drafted into the slave labor battalions (Munkatabor). In April 1944, the Jews of Chynadiyovo were rounded up and confined to the ghetto in Mukachevo. From there they were loaded on trains for Auschwitz.

Prior to deportation, the Hungarian authorities sent people to go from home to home and made complete property assessments for each Jewish household. Those property lists exist to this day and are available on microfilm at the USHMM.

Listed below are the names for each head of household.
